Here are the answers to some common questions we get asked!
Unsure about what training looks like for your four legged companiont? Get answers to common questions to better understand what to expect with SK9.
How do I know which program is right for me?
SK9 provides free in home evaluations to ensure that you are placed into the perfect program to achieve your goals! During this evaluation we will discuss the lifestyle you currently share with your dog, the lifestyle you would like to have with your dog, your training goals and what it will take to get there. From there we will be able to select the program that best suits you and your dog, and discuss the next steps to the lifestyle you have imagined!
Are training tools required?
While we do sometimes utilize training tools such as slip leads, prong collars and E-collars, none of these tools are a one size fits all. Not every dog that goes through our program will be a good fit for a specific training tool. We will not use any training equipment with your dogs without prior approval and an in depth conversation with you. SK9 strives to educate the local community on proper and appropriate use of these tools and we pride ourselves on the amount of education each and every owner receives on every piece of equipment involved in their dogs training, including a regular leash and collar!
Will I be able to learn what my dog has learned in training?
Absolutely! What good is a well trained dog if you don't know how to operate it? No matter which training program you do, we will work diligently to help you gain complete confidence in your abilities to guide your dog through whatever life throws at you!
Will I be able to work with my dog while they are away at training?
Once we have made some progress with your dogs training we encourage you to get involved! It is important that we are able to reach a baseline of understanding in the new communicational structure we are developing with your dog before we add to their confusion while teaching you something relatively new to both of you for the first time. However, the more involved you as the owner can be in your dogs training, the better!
What kind of updates can I expect while my dog is away?
While your dog is with their trainer for the duration of their training program you can expect to see one training progress update video per week, showcasing the skills that they have learned and improved upon. You can also expect photo updates to show of snapshots of what they may be working on that day in particular, or a fun new location they're training in!
How long is a Board and Train?
Because we strive for personal and customized training programs at SK9, the length of your dog's board and train will depend on many factors. What does your current lifestyle with your dog look like? What does your ideal lifestyle with them look like? How much training does your dog already have? Does your dog have any existing behavioral concerns that will also need to be addressed during their program? We will go over all of these questions with you in detail when you schedule an evaluation. During this evaluation we will be able to give you a much more accurate timeline you can expect to accomplish your goals.
